Commission review starts again for Bournedale wind farm plan

Credit:  Bourne Courier, www.wickedlocal.com 2 May 2011 ~~

The Cape Cod Commission will open a pro forma hearing Thursday into New Generation Wind’s plan to build seven industrial-grade turbines off Scenic Highway and Route 25 north of the canal.

The session starts at 10 a.m. at the commission office in Barnstable village. The purpose is to open a development of regional impact (DRI) hearing for procedural purposes.

The agency will then conduct a public hearing May 17 at 5:50 p.m. in the Bourne High School auditorium and invite public testimony as well as input by elected officials.

This is the second review the commission has conducted into New Generation’s controversial wind-farm proposal. The turbine principals withdrew its previous submission when the commission’s sub-committee for review dwindled from five members to two.

The proposal has been opposed by Concerned Citizens for Responsible Energy, which is trying to amend Bourne’s wind-energy conversion systems bylaw to keep industrial-grade turbines away from residential neighborhoods. The New Generation structures would reach 495 feet to the tip of the blades.
