The Monday Times Our View regarding the wind turbine at the VA overlooked one huge factor. Interest on $2.3 million (the cost of the turbine) at a conservative 4 percent was not factored in to the number of years it would take to recover the initial investment.
If we add this little factor in to the equation, it means that it will take a little longer than 25 years to recover the initial taxpayer expense.
Interest of 4 percent on a $2.3 million investment is $92,000 a year, which is more than the expected value of the power produced in an average year!
The taxpayers will never recover their investment and are actually losing money every year. Think about it.
