CHERRY VALLEY – No one was injured when a semitrailer carrying an oversized load overturned this afternoon on Interstate 39 about a mile south of U.S. 20.
Finn Jensen, 42, of Scranton, N.D., was pulling a 140,000-pound wind turbine tower when part of the trailer detached from the truck around 1 p.m., said Brent Massingill, Illinois State Police District 16 trooper and spokesman.
“With the size of (the tower), they use what’s called a pull trailer,” Massingill said. “Some pins sheared off the back and the trailer detached from the tower. The tower was just dragging along the back, and it pulled the truck into the ditch.”
Jensen wasn’t injured in the wreck, and no other cars were involved, Massingill said. Southbound lanes of traffic were restricted to one lane while the truck and debris were cleared from the road.
