Joy as turbine plan is binned

Rejection of plans to build a 110ft wind turbine in a semi-residential area have been welcomed by councillors.

Members of Cheshire East Council’s southern planning committee voted against proposals for the turbine on Blakelow Business Park in Newcastle Road, Nantwich, last September following a campaign by residents.

But an appeal against that decision was submitted meaning the Planning Inspectorate had the final ruling.

Last month the appeal hearing took place and the plans to build the wind turbine were thrown out.

Councillor Brian Silvester, a key campaigner along with Councillor Margaret Simon, said: “Councillor Simon and myself worked very closely with residents and the parish council to get the original application overwhelmingly refused by the Southern Planning Committee.

“Strong representations were made at the appeal hearing and we are all delighted that the appeal has been rejected.

“The proposed wind turbine would have been a blot on the landscape that would have been visible for miles.

“This has been a real David and Goliath battle.

“It is good to see that the little man can defeat the big battalions if they present a good case and campaign effectively.”
