The Member for Bass, Ken Smith, says wind farms in the Wonthaggi area have been largely ineffective.
Synergy Wind has outlined plans to build a up to 15 wind turbines at St Clair but it is yet to make a formal planning application with council.
Mr Smith says he will oppose the plans because nearby residents and farmers do not want another wind farm in the area.
He says wind farms on the outskirts of Wonthaggi could restrict the growth of the town.
“A lot of the wind power, that’s pushed on the people, particularly down in Wonthaggi,” he said.
“We’ve had six wind towers down there that work for about 10 per cent of the time or 15 per cent of the time and not producing anywhere near the amount of power that they are predicted to produce.”
