Controversial plans to site three giant wind turbines at Ventnor Golf Club have been withdrawn by Portsmouth-based energy firm, IMS Windpower, the County Press has learned.
The scheme, which would have seen three 44-metre turbines erected on Rew Down, was due to be heard by the Isle of Wight Council’s planning committee on October 6.
It is understood the company decided to withdraw the scheme ‘at this stage’.
The turbines were planned to enable the club to become one of the first carbon neutral clubs in the country and could have generated enough power to the national grid to supply 600 homes.
