An informational forum was held last night at Cohasset town hall, regarding a proposal for the construction of a wind turbine on Turkey Hill in Cohasset.
The non-profit group, The Trustees of Reservations or TTOR, is proposing to build an enormous wind turbine on the Cohasset side of Turkey Hill, right next to the radio towers. TTOR’s Steve Sloan said the turbine could reach a towering height of 450 feet.
“We looking at two tower heights right now; one at 100 meters and one at 80 meters. So at it’s higest point, with the blade at the top, it might be 450 feet tall.”
Also shown – photographic models of the turbine looming over the Cohasset golf course. It’s also visible at Worlds End, Sandy Beach and Hingham Center.
Dan Mendelshon from Applied Science Associates says noise from the turbine at the Golden Living Center, located 1,000 feet away, shouldn’t be an issue.
Mendelshon said, “At the nearest residence which is the Golden Living Center, which is at the TTOR property boundary, the decibel levels from the tower were significantly less – 10% less than state guidelines.”
Any profit from the sale of electricity to the gird would go directly to TTOR. They hope to get 30% of the funding for the estimated 6 million dollar project from federal stimulus funds, which run out in December.
They’re hoping to go before the planning board by September 22nd.
