E.ON AG said it is planning to build a wind park off the coast of Yorkshire, where about 80 turbines will generate up to 300 MW of energy.
The company did not say how much it is investing in the project.
Industry sources said each installed megawatt of offshore wind energy capacity commonly costs 2 mln eur. This would bring E.ON’s investment costs for the wind park to about 600 mln eur.
E.ON already operates 20 on- and offshore wind parks in the UK.
The German utility has earmarked total investments in renewable energy of around 3 bln eur until 2010.
