Milnathort turbines given thumbs down

Controversial plans to site a wind cluster near Milnathort have once again been given the thumbs-down by the local council.

An application by John Lawrie Tillyrie Ltd. to erect five turbines just north of the village was first refused almost two years ago by Perth & Kinross Council and is currently the subject of an appeal.

At a meeting of the development control committee, it was decided that the council would stick to its guns on the issue.

It will argue for refusal on the grounds of the impact it would have on the landscape and on Loch Leven Special Protection Area, as well as the effect on residents’ water supplies.

In addition it was felt that any decision on the application would be ‘premature’, since four other windfarm applications in the Ochils are currently awaiting the outcome of appeals.

The proposed Tillyrie wind cluster has strongly divided local opinion.

The council has received over 350 letters of representation, about half of which are opposed to the idea.
