Opportunity lost, wind farm firm claims; Nuon to consider making an appeal

Bosses at the firm which wanted to bring nine giant wind farm turbines to Poddington have spoken of their disappointment after planning permission was refused.

Nuon Renewables project manager Piers Guy admitted he was “gutted” by Bedford Borough Council’s decision.

He said: “I thought it would at least be a closer vote than it was.

“It’s not just the fact that this development has been refused, this is happening all over the country.

“Who is actually prepared to take responsibility for energy consumption?”

He added: “I don’t know what we will do now. We need to look at the situation, at the reasons for the refusal and see if there is anything we can do to make an appeal worthwhile.”

In a further statement, a company spokesman said: “Nuon Renewables are extremely disappointed that the planning committee has rejected the proposal, totally disregarding the views of seven out of ten local residents who supported the scheme.

“This was the perfect opportunity for councillors to make a difference and help combat global warming, an opportunity that has, for the moment, been lost.”
