Windfarm cynicism accusation

Objectors to a £53million windfarm in Wester Ross have accused the developer of cynically timing its planning application to coincide with Christmas and publicity of the Beauly to Denny pylon line inquiry.
They have also criticised developer, Infinergy Ltd, of Wimborne, Dorset, for holding a two-day exhibition as part of the public consultation process for the proposed 22-turbine development at Lochluichart, near Garve, too late.
The exhibition at Garve was held on Monday and Tuesday of this week when the deadline for representations to the Scottish Executive on the planning application was to have been today. It has now been postponed until next Friday.
Protester Sue Hopkinson, of Grianan, Rhue, Ullapool, said some local people objected to the proposal because of the visual impact it would have on the landscape and the fact that it would be producing electricity for use hundreds of miles away.
The energy company originally applied for permission for 43 giant turbines that would generate 129 Megawatts of electricity, but the development was recently scaled down to 22 turbines which, at around 410ft to tip of blade, would be some of the tallest in the UK.
Infinergy chief executive, Charles Sandham said: “The public exhibition was on our list of things to do and we thought we’d done it. There was no malice aforethought.
