Andes planners delay vote on proposal for turbine ban

The Andes Planning Board has delayed voting on whether to recommend to the town board a proposed law that would ban commercial wind turbines. The board received minor changes to the draft law on Monday evening from the Andes Alliance, a citizens’ group that wants the town to ban commercial wind turbines. The changes were based on input received at a public meeting several weeks ago. The planners agreed that they would like additional time to review the changes before . . . Complete story »

Step closer to second wind farm

Fears are growing that a second wind farm could soon be built near Bradworthy. Plans for a monitoring mast not far from the home of North Devon’s first set of turbines have been given the go ahead by planners. The 55m high temporary structure will monitor the suitability of the site at Wheelers Cross for a wind farm. British wind energy company Coronation Power is proposing to site four turbines each measuring up to 76m high at the site which . . . Complete story »

Wind Turbine Company Files Appeal With PSC

Synergics Wind Energy is appealing the Oct. 30 decision made by hearing examiner David L. Moore, Maryland Public Service Commission. The examiner had approved the company’s application to build wind turbines in Garrett County, but with several environmental restrictions. At the October hearing, Moore okayed 24 conditions recommended by the Department of Natural Resources, including one that would prevent construction of the wind turbines in two areas in order to help preserve habitat for rare species. Synergics had until Nov. . . . Complete story »

Wind power has caught on as the next wave for electricity generation, but there are limits to what it can do

A new crop has sprung up in the rolling steppes of the inland Northwest. Thanks to a volatile energy market and support from the federal government, the wind turbine is often the tallest structure in many areas graced with a bountiful and free supply of moving air. In many ways, the turbine stands as a 200-foot-tall monument to the arrival of the 21st century, an ecologically safe alternative to the carbon-burning, pollution-spewing plants of yesteryear. While the technology has evolved . . . Complete story »

Studies under way for ELGV wind farm

A mostly supportive crowd of about 100 East Luther Grand Valley residents heard Monday night that Windrush Energy would hope to have two 10- megawatt wind farms online at Ashton Ridge by 2008. But Windrush president John Pennie would not narrow the opening date down beyond that, except to say that he expects the first of two six-turbine sites to be completed by the summer of 2007, with the second one following a year later. Ashton Ridge is off County . . . Complete story »

Plan for 56 wind farms around airport

Robin Hood Airport has been notified about 56 wind farm proposals within a 20-mile radius of the terminal, aviation bosses have revealed. Airport chiefs have confirmed that 11 of the 56 schemes which they have been informed of since opening last year fall within the planning system and that they are objecting to five. The number of schemes put before aviation chiefs shows the move towards more environmentally-conscious ways of creating energy which will help Doncaster Council deliver its target . . .
