Anger at plans for wind farm

Plans to build a wind farm with 16 turbines have been met with anger by people living nearby.
The plans submitted by energy firm npower to Wellingborough Council show proposals for 125-metre (410ft) tall turbines would be put up at Nun Wood, close to Bozeat.
The wind farm could provide enough energy for about 15,000 homes each year, but a campaign group has been set up by residents to stop the plans.
Chairman of the Bozeat and Lavendon Oppose Turbines group Brian Skittrall said there were “many downsides” for people living in the village.
He said: “These enormous turbines will affect the quality of life in nearby villages with their visual dominance, noise and flashing shadows. They will decimate the peace and beauty of the landscape, interrupting the well-used Three Shires Way and footpaths between Lavendon, Harrold and Bozeat.
“They will also be a major distraction to drivers on the already accident-prone A509 and A428.”
npower said the 16 turbines would save between 57,900 and 66,500 tonnes in carbon dioxide emissions each year.
Scheme developer Vicky Portwain said: “We are very excited to get to this stage. We feel we have submitted a very thorough environmental statement with the planning application.
“This is the culmination of a lot of hard work by the staff at npower renewables, as well as many independent consultants.
“Further to the well-attended exhibitions back in November, we have changed the layout in response to comments from residents.
“We have now moved the northernmost turbine further from Bozeat, to a new position south east of the Three Shires Way.
“The issue of the turbine closest to Bozeat village was raised by a number of local residents at the exhibitions and we felt it was right to take actions to address this concern.”
The application is due to go before Wellingborough Council next month.
