Greg Johnson: Alexander takes on TVA/Clean Line Energy alliance
Sen. Lamar Alexander apparently has no intention of shuffling out the U.S. Senate door into a quiet retirement in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Though speculators speciously suggested former University of Tennessee quarterback and future pro football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning might seek Alexander’s seat, the senator was his feisty self this week in one of his patented floor speeches. Alexander blitzed Clean Line Energy and the Tennessee Valley Authority. Again. In doing so, he planted himself . . . Complete story »
Alexander urges TVA to avoid Clean Line wind generation
The winds of change in consumer power demand are blowing against building a proposed $2 billion transmission line to bring wind-generated power into the Tennessee Valley, according to a senior member of the Senate energy subcommittee. In a speech on the Senate floor, U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander again urged the Tennessee Valley Authority not to contract with Clean Line Energy Partners to buy wind-generated power he says TVA doesn’t need and could boost electric rates. Alexander, a frequent critic of . . . Complete story »
Sen. Alexander urges TVA not to raise Tennesseans’ electric bills to buy power it doesn’t need
U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) urged the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) not to purchase power from the Clean Line Energy Partners’ proposed Plains and Eastern Clean Line wind energy transmission project, which would “carry comparatively more expensive, less reliable electricity to Tennessee and other southeastern states.” In a speech on the Senate floor, Alexander warned that a contract with Clean Line Energy Partners could cost TVA ratepayers more than $1 billion over the next 20 to 30 years – which . . . Wind farms continue to raise controversy
From New York to the mountains of rural Tennessee, wind farms continue to spark controversy and debate. A group of concerned citizens in upstate New York recently arose in opposition to a proposed wind farm near their community known for its natural, pristine beauty. A similar Tennessee uprising was sparked last year by a proposal to build a wind farm on a scenic Cumberland Plateau mountaintop. That debate continues. Proponents insist such farms represent the future of clean energy. They . . . Complete story »

Wind farm opponents continue appeals to county commission
A Tennessee State Epidemiologist with the Tennessee Department of Health in a letter to a Fairfield Glade resident, said there is no current evidence that suggests exposure to industrial wind turbines is associated with any specific health outcomes. The letter, shared by Cumberland County attorney Randal Boston during his legal report, was written to Mary Kopmeir of Fairfield Glade by Timothy Jones, MD. The letter was dated Sept. 1, 2016. “…Some studies point to an association with annoyance, or with . . . Complete story »
Dozens protest wind farm in Cumberland County
James Martin and dozens of others say wind turbines don’t belong in their area. “We’re saving the beauty of the Cumberland Plateau. We don’t want any turbines in Cumberland County,” said Martin. They’re protesting because they’re concerned and they aren’t going to be quiet about it. “We intend to keep putting it in the commissioners’ face,” he said. They feel like the Crab Orchard Wind Farm Project is wrong for the community. Apex Clean Energy plans to fill this area . . . Complete story »
Wind turbines fall short of green-energy claims
The letter “Wind energy helps wildlife and wallets” lacks any research on the subject of wind farms. Those of us in the Cumberland Mountain Preservation Coalition know differently because we have done our research. We have been fighting Apex Clean Energy’s Crab Orchard Wind farm for some time. We are not anti-green energy, but we do know when we are being scammed. The only thing green about wind turbines is the $20 billion-plus the government is spending to subsidize them. . . .
