Emera’s $2B Atlantic Link loses bid for Massachusetts clean energy deal
Emera’s $2-billion Atlantic Link project, a proposed 563-kilometre underwater power transmission cable, has failed to win a deal to bring clean energy to southern Massachusetts. A news release from Massachusetts Clean Energy on Thursday said Northern Pass Transmission’s proposal was chosen, but the final acceptance of that bid depends on regulatory approval from the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. 3 municipalities see future in building wind farms together
Three communities with their own utilities are joining forces on a proposal to generate more wind energy in New Brunswick. Saint John Energy and smaller utilities in Edmundston, and Perth-Andover have submitted joint proposals to develop two wind energy projects, the Charlotte County Community Wind Farm, near South Oromocto Lake, and Chapman Community Wind Farm in Chapmanville in Carleton County. Energy giant Emera Inc. is upping the amount of electricity it wants to carry on its proposed $2-billion Atlantic Link energy corridor from New Brunswick to Massachusetts. Emera Inc. bids to deliver wind energy, hydro power to Massachusetts
Emera Inc. says it has submitted a competitive bid to deliver 900 megawatts of wind energy and hydro power from Atlantic Canada to Massachusetts by 2022. If successful, the main source of that power would likely be wind farms yet to be built in New Brunswick. Community wind farm proposed for Sackville
SACKVILLE, N.B. – Sackville’s winds could soon be put to good use. An Ontario-based energy company is hoping to build a small wind farm just on the edge of town, a proposal that would involve some community ownership in the project. Dark Harbour eyed as site for $60 million wind farm proposal
About 60 people attended a public meeting at the Grand Manan school on April 5 with representatives of Innergex, a Longueuil, Quebec‑based company, that is proposing a wind farm at Dark Harbour on the western side of the island. Emera Inc. has plans to run a submarine power cable from New Brunswick to Massachusetts, and is looking for partners with power to spare, willing to partner on a plan to feed the U.S. marketplace. Little disclosure on wind turbine bird mortality
I just read “What’s a few chopped up birds” (From The Top of the Pile, Sept. 22) on wind turbines and bird deaths in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Way to go Saskatchewan for actually taking this issue seriously. We’ve never had this happen in Ontario! I’m from southwestern Ontario, but moved to New Brunswick two years ago when the turbines went up. Grand Bay-Westfield could see wind farm built in area
A couple of landowners in Grand Bay-Westfield say they’ve been approached by a Halifax company that’s interested in building a wind farm. “It certainly makes sense to me,” said Ed DeSaulniers, who co-owns 162 hectares in an area which he describes as a natural wind tunnel.
