A petition will be tabled in parliament next week opposing the Lal Lal Windfarm proposal.
Lal Lal and Elaine Landscape Action Group representatives yesterday presented Ballarat East MLA Geoff Howard with the petition, with about 1300 signatures.
Group spokeswoman Wendy Taylor said those opposing the windfarm had signed the petition, asking the State Government not to approve the proposal.
The proposal would see 79 wind turbines erected over two sites at Yendon and Elaine.
Opponents are concerned about the height and number of turbines, which they believe will affect the visual landscape and the area’s population.
“This is about making parliament aware there is so much opposition to this wind farm,” Ms Taylor said.
“West Wind Energy has said if there is no community support, the project will not go ahead and this will be a good indication of that.”
Mr Howard has met with the group over the past year, advising how they could have an input in the process.
He said West Wind Energy would be an “important component of energy production into the future”.
“I also have to listen to people who are supportive of the proposal so it’s not appropriate for me to take a view.”
