Developers of a controversial 102-metre wind turbine rejected by planners will appeal against the decision.
Councillors at Torridge District Council voted unanimously last week to refuse the plan – which would have been one of the tallest turbines in North Devon on land at Alscott Farm, Shebbear – by Dorset-based developer Infinergy.
The planning committee voted against the 500kw turbine on the grounds of its impact on the environment, despite having previously issued a recommendation for approval.
Infinergy’s project manager Richard Seymour said: “We are bitterly disappointed by the planning committee’s decision to refuse planning permission for this project.
“Alscott Farm Wind Turbine has everything a good project should have; it is in a windy location, grid connection and road access look good and it has no objections from any statutory consultees. The officers had strongly recommended it for approval. Such a promising project should not be refused.”
Mr Seymour added: “This project would have made an important contribution to Torridge’s installed renewable energy capacity, which has a long way to go before a significant contribution towards the national target of 15% renewable by 2020 is made.”
