No more turbines, plead residents in East Yorkshire

A holiday park owner is among objectors to plans to extend a massive wind farm in part of the region already said to be “overwhelmed” by turbines. Bourne Leisure, which owns Far Grange, at Skipsea, said allowing the Lissett wind farm to add five more 125 metre turbines would be a “significant business risk.” East Riding has the highest density of turbines in the country and three parish councils, as well as the local MP, have come out against the . . . Objections to Iggesund turbines plan

Claims that a Workington factory’s plans for two 360ft wind turbines were motivated by profit have been disputed by its bosses. Seaton Parish Council is objecting to the proposals by Iggesund Paperboard at Siddick. Paul Bramley, town clerk, said: “The council is objecting to the proposals. It has noted in the past that the biomass plant was said to provide sufficient power to enable the Iggesund plant to operate and so the turbines were not needed for this purpose, which . . . Army’s air safety concerns put Seighford turbine plans on hold

Plans to increase the height of two wind turbines to be built in Seighford have been put on hold because of concerns about air safety. Gemma Clark already has planning permission for the turbines but wants to increase their height by nearly 60 feet and 52 feet in diameter. If approved the turbines would stand at 147 feet and 115 feet respectively and the rotor diameter would be 137 feet. The MoD have submitted a partial response asking for red . . . Complete story »

Queensland’s renewable energy targets to push up power prices, say energy suppliers

Queensland families will face higher power bills to enable the State Government to meet its renewable energy targets, analysis warns. The Palaszczuk Government aims to source 50 per cent of electricity from renewables such as solar and wind by 2030. But the Energy Suppliers Association of Australia said that could be more than $1 billion a year more expensive than traditional generation such as coal or gas – and consumers will bear the burden. The switch will make the average . . . Complete story »

Canberra urged to strip billions from windfarm subsidies

The Abbott government is being urged to strip billions more from subsidies to wind farms in the final report of a Senate committee that has already pushed renewable energy investment to favour solar.
