Ben Hoen on need for Property Value Guarantee
The following is an excerpt from a conversation I had in April 2010 with Ben Hoen, whose work with property value impacts associated with wind projects is widely referenced by developers, including those developers hoping to have wind projects approved here in Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties. Hoen’s comments below are very different from the spin suggested by Madden of BP Alternative Energy and Acciona’s FEIS. Hoen indicates if developers believe turbines won’t devalue neighboring property they should guarantee it, . . . Complete article »
Visual and Sound Impacts from the Wolfe Island Wind Project on Residents of Tibbetts Point Road, Cape Vincent, NY
This report outlines the acoustic and visual impacts of the Wolfe Island Wind Project on residents 2 miles (3.2 km) across the St. Lawrence River along the Tibbetts Point Road, Cape Vincent. Sound levels measured in January-February 2010, when the wind farm was operating, were 3 to 4 dBA greater than background sound levels measured in 2008, prior to construction of the wind farm. A mail-questionnaire was sent to 43 residents of the Tibbetts Point Road to assess their reaction . . . Complete article »
Accuracy of Model Predictions and the Effects of Atmospheric Stability on Wind Turbine Noise at the Maple Ridge Wind Power Facility, Lowville, NY
The main objective of this study was to measure the noise levels at two sites within Atlantic Renewable Energy Corporation’s Maple Ridge Wind Power Project located in Lewis County, New York, and compare actual levels with the model predictions that were available in the preconstruction Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). The second objective was to examine atmospheric stability at Maple Ridge. Atmospheric stability was identified as a significant problem at a wind farm on the Dutch-German border. Stability occurs when . . . Complete article »
