Residents object to plan to lengthen wind turbine blades (that are already as long as a footy pitch)
Hundreds of campaigners who claim they were denied their say on controversial plans to upgrade “the largest wind farm in Lincolnshire” have now been told the Government will consider their objections. Power firm Ecotricity submitted plans for 22 turbines at East Heckington Fen in 2013 which were approved by the government. But earlier this year the company wanted to increase the diameter of the blades – which are already the length of a football pitch. Another consultation was held and . . . Complete story »

Campaigners have won their four-year battle to stop a wind farm being built at West Pinchbeck. The words “We Have Won!” next to a picture of two filled champagne glasses appeared on the Stop West Pinchbeck Wind Farm website after South Holland District Council (SHDC) ruled the Wind Ventures Ltd application had run out of time for an appeal against non-determination. This means the application is dead in the water. Leading campaigner Tony Fear said: “We are of course delighted . . . Complete story »

The wind tycoon, the donations to Labour and £36m in subsidies
Dale Vince has done all right for a former hippy. Reckoned to be Britain’s wealthiest green energy tycoon, he lives in a castle, drives a £750,000 electric sports car and sits on a fortune worth more than £100 million. Not content with saving the planet, last week he rode to Ed Miliband’s rescue too. Just as the Labour leader was reeling from accusations he had deserted British business, Mr Vince intervened. Through his green energy company Ecotricity, Mr Vince donated £250,000 . . . Complete story »

Wind turbines trash the landscape for the benefit of billionaires
Is it fair for the chancellor to cut pensions for the poor while offering a million pounds a year to the Duke of Roxburghe for letting the wind blow? Is it fair to offer half a million to the Earl of Moray, a third of a million to the Earl of Glasgow, and a quarter of a million to the Duke of Beaufort, Sir Alastair Gordon Cumming and Sir Reginald Sheffield, the prime minister’s father-in-law? Is it fair to promise . . . Complete story »
Campaigners celebrate wind farm substation victory
Local campaigners were celebrating after developers behind an offshore wind farm scheme opted not to site an electricity substation on their doorstep, instead selecting another site on the opposite site of the South Forty Foot Drain between Swineshead and Bicker. RWE NPower Renewables had been studying four sites on which to locate the substation compound to hook up to the National Grid. It would link underground power cables from the Triton Knoll offshore windfarm off the county’s coast. Matt Mountain, . . . Complete story »
