Smoky Hills Wind Farm Phase 1

It is difficult to comprehend the magnitude of the destruction to native prairie and the size of the project. There are going to be 56 turbines on this the first high ridge line. The entire project will cover 16 miles east and west and 4 miles deep right next to I-70. This Lincoln County – Ellsworth County wind farm will be the most visible of any in the state.

Congress has lavished hundreds of millions in tax breaks and subsidies on the wind industry – reinforcing a set of Federal wind energy policies that transfer millions of dollars annually from the pockets of ordinary taxpayers and electric customers to the pockets of “wind farm” owners (who enjoy sharply reduced income taxes), and wind turbine manufacturers.
