ROKT response to Governor's approval of KVWPP
Residents Opposed to Kittitas Turbines (ROKT)
The people of ROKT are extremely disappointed and angered by the Governor’s decision to approve the KVWPP. The Governor’s decision comes after 5 years of “her” citizens fighting to keep their homes and families’ safe, and their health and lifestyles protected. She has decided that the economic viability of a foreign-owned energy company is more important that her own constituent’s concerns.
She has also shown us loud and clear that her word does not mean anything. She said in July 2006 that she felt local wind projects should be approved from the bottom up and that Wild Horse Wind Project was a model project that she wanted to use as a model for future projects in Kittitas County.
In approving this project, the Governor has not followed that “model”. By over-riding local elected officials decision to deny the KVWPP she has went against the majority of the community and their wishes and places the ability of all counties to make local land use decisions at risk – all based upon the recommendation of an “appointed”, not “elected” council.
ROKT encourages our County Officials and the Washington State Association of Counties to take this decision to the Supreme Court. ROKT is considering legal action, but has not made any decisions at this time.
