GE Renewable Energy is investigating after a blade snapped off one of its Cypress onshore wind turbines in north-west Germany.
Emergency services in North Rhine-Westphalia were called on the morning of 2 January after the blade snapped off the GE 5.3-153 turbine at the 10.6MW Epe-Füchte project in Gronau.
The blade had snapped off and was found close to the turbine, along with other turbine components, according to the volunteer fire brigade in Gronau.
The community wind farm’s two GE 5.3-158 turbines were commissioned in 2021.
A GE spokesman confirmed there were no injuries, and added: “In partnership with our customer and local authorities, we have secured the site and are working to determine the root cause of this event.”
He would not confirm the condition of the other turbine at the site.
