I am writing to you regarding your article following EDP Renewables’ open house in Finch.

My wife and I will have the misfortune of having upwards of six wind turbines within one to three kilometres of our farm for the next 30 years should the Nation Rise Wind Project be given the green light to proceed.

The line in the article that really threw me for a loop was the statement by EDPR’s Tom LoTurco and I quote: “there is a silent majority of people who support the project, we just don’t hear from them as much.”

LoTurco must have forgotten the Township of North Stormont voted overwhelmingly as a non-willing host to wind project developers following an avalanche of pleas from residents against wind projects.

It should also be noted the Township of North Stormont’s decision was made despite wind project developers’ promises at the time of large sums of money to be injected into the community by way of Community Benefits Funds.

LoTurco did get one thing correct in that proponents of the project within the township are silent and I posed a question to EDPR as to why that is the case. Here is an excerpt of my email to Ken Little, EDPR senior project manager sent last week following the EDPR’s open house in Finch.

“Lastly, I will leave this question for you to ponder and get back to me on. I met EDPR officials and consultants from Houston, Oregon, Chicago, New Zealand, Montreal and Toronto who are pushing really hard to get this project through. I have yet to hear a voice or meet someone on your team from North Stormont pushing for this project. Why aren’t there any people from North Stormont on your team standing up for this project if it’s such a great initiative for our area?”
