Alliance claims land clearing to begin

A volunteer Prince Edward County organization fighting to stop a big wind turbine project believes the hopeful wind farm developers are jumping the gun on the project.

In an email sent in the midday Good Friday, The Alliance to Protect Prince Edward County says WPD, the company hoping to build a 27 turbine industrial wind farm on the county’s south shore, sent an e mail to the Evironmental Review Tribunal stating it intended to start clearing land, except for land that has been formally identified as a spring foraging area for the endangered Blanding’s Turtle. WPD says it plans to start work this Wednesday.

APPEC also says WPD asked the Environmental Review Tribunal to allow a hearing soon so it could start
clearing those foraging areas as well.

APPEC says there has been no reply to WPD’s email, which was sent late Thursday(April 13), from the Tribunal.

The Alliance says the rush to clear land shows how willing wind power companies are to risk environmental damage.

Meanwhile, all sides in the matter are awaiting a decision from the Tribunal on the project, which had been expected by the end of March.
