Wind removed from Official Plan

Bruce County is again trying to halt wind development within its boundaries.

In a unanimous decision, the County Planning and Development Committee recently removed wind energy from its Official Plan.

Mayor of Brockton and the Committee Chairman, David Inglis, says it reaffirms Bruce County’s position as an unwilling wind turbine host.

He concedes, however, that despite the upper-tier’s standpoint, there isn’t much the County can do if a wind developer wants construct a wind farm in the region.

Inglis says that’s because Queen’s Park has “somewhat handcuffed” both upper and lower tier municipalities via the Green Energy Act.

Regardless, Inglis says Bruce County has enough wind turbines as it is.

He says the Ministry of Health hasn’t properly dealt with the alleged health concerns and noise nuisance issues related to windmills.

And he’s hopeful that by removing wind energy from the Official Plan, the Ontario government will realize how much opposition there is actually in Bruce County.
