(Collingwood) – What might be the final stand in the battle over wind turbines planned for just outside Stayner.

The Environmental Review Tribunal hearing starts Monday at the Curling Club in Collingwood.

Clearview, Collingwood and Simcoe County are opposing the approval, along with several people who live near the site where they’re going to be built.

Nav Canada and Transport Canada have said there are no safety issues with the turbines’ placement, and they were approved in February.

The Conservative MPP for Simcoe Grey, Jim Wilson, says the company behind the project, wpd Canada, has been making campaign contributions to the provincial Liberals.

Meantime, the citizens’ group, Preserve Clearview, says it has spent more than a million dollars fighting the project over the last several years.
