Motion filed to stay construction on wind farm

Quinte News | Mar 7th, '16 | www.quintenews.com

The Alliance to Protect Prince Edward County has filed a motion to stay construction on the White Pines wind project, after WPD says it’s going ahead with plans to begin clearing vegetation on March 14.

In an email to Quinte News, APPEC president Orville Walsh says they’re appalled by WPD’s chosen course of action, just four days after the Tribunal issued its decision to uphold the appeal.

The ERT ruled the South Marysburgh project would cause serious and irreversible harm to Little Brown Bats and the Blandings Turtle.

Walsh says it is disrespectful of the appeal process not to mention an ERT decision that to anyone’s mind would bring the White Pines wind project to a grinding halt.

WPD Canada spokesman Kevin Surette says this is part of the process.

The Tribunal’s stay decision is expected soon.

There will be an upcoming hearing on remedy solutions for the appeal.
