Sound study for Armow wind farm

Kincardine studies noise & infrasound issues created by wind turbines, before & after | By John Divinski | Bayshore Broadcasting | August 7, 2015 | www.bayshorebroadcasting.ca

It appears Kincardine is going after a “before and after” scenario when it comes to noise and infrasound issues created by wind turbines.

The study will be done on the Armow wind farm project.

Pattern and Samsung Energy plan to have 90-plus turbines in the Armow area with most in operation by the end of this year.

Kincardine CAO Murray Clarke says before that time council wants to do a study on the baseline sound levels along with infrasound measurements.

Clarke says staff hopes to have a report for councillors by the next meeting on August 12th in order to start the Request for Proposals process as soon as possible.

He says if benchmark sound levels can be established then they could be compared to the acoustic profile when the turbines are operating.

The cost of such a study is unknown at this time but any cost will be borne by taxpayers.

Clarke says councillors have also given the green light to proceed with the peer review of the Armow Wind Noise Impact Assessment report which the company used when making its application to the province for approval to move ahead.

That cost will be borne by Samsung and Pattern.
