Group to review wind turbine report

A province-wide organization has taken issue with a recent report from Health Canada that says there is no link between wind turbine noise and health effects.

In a news release, Wind Concerns Ontario President Jane Wilson says her group is very disappointed in the summary of results.

“We have deep concerns about the methodology and conclusions and that, finally, these results do not reconcile with either the experience of Ontario communities, or other peer-reviewed research,” she says.

Wilson says her organization intends to undertake a detailed study of the report and seek a meeting with Health Canada to prepare a formal response.

Health Canada’s year-long study explored the relationship between exposure to noise and health effects reported by people living near wind turbines.

The study did, however, find a relationship between increasing levels of wind turbine noise and residents’ annoyance related to noise, vibration and shadow flicker from the structures.
