Huron County OPP is investigating a number of mischeif complaints in relation to damaged property at wind turbine sites throughout the county. There are investigations into damages at sites in the Municipality of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and on Bridge Rd. in Huron East.

In Huron East, a John Deere Nortrax excavator sustained thousands of dollars in damage before the Thanksgiving weekend. The owner reported his excavator was parked overnight at a wind turbine site on Bridge Rd. Windows in the cab area were smashed, then various computer controls inside the cab compartment were tampered with. Suspects also destroyed all of the paint markings on the ground that marked out where the operator needed to dig.

A similar occurrence happened in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh on September 21. Two excavators that were parked on Glen’s Hill Rd. were vandalized when suspects hurled rocks through the windows of both a Caterpillar and a Hitachi excavator. And on September 13, police were called out to the Cransford Ln. wind turbine site to investigate damage to a porta-potty and a light stand generator. Damages are estimated to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Investigators say the bulk of the damage is being done late at night or during the early morning hours and are asking any suspicious activity to be reported to the Huron OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122 or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
