MPP not giving up wind fight

The Progressive Conservative MPP for Huron-Bruce says she’s not letting Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli off the hook on the issue of wind turbine project approvals.

Lisa Thompson says she plans to confront Chiarelli in the Legislature on Tuesday evening after she claims the Minister brushed off her question on wind farm approvals in the House last week.

Thompson told the Goderich Rotary Club recently she invited Chiarelli and Environment Minister Jim Bradley to Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh to view the Samsung-Pattern-Capital wind project.

She says she hasn’t heard back from either cabinet member.

Concerns about the effects on people’s health have been expressed about the 140-turbine initiative and others across the province.

Shawn Drennan and his wife Trisha – who live in the project area – lost their Environmental Review Tribunal appeal against the project.

At the same time the Liberal government says it will remove the debt retirement charge from Hydro bills in 2016.

The cost of electricity is viewed as a liability for the Grits entering a provincial election campaign that could come at any time.

Huron-Bruce Liberal candidate, Colleen Schenk, has branded Thompson as a “one-issue candidate” for her stand against further wind turbine developments.
