Add the municipality of Kincardine to the growing list of unwilling hosts for industrial wind turbine farms.

Kincardine already plays host to almost 100 turbines and could double that number with the Armow Wind Project.

In a recorded vote, council approved the unwilling host status by a 7-1 count with Mayor Larry Kraemer absent from the meeting.

The lone dissenting vote came from Councillor Ken Craig who says the municipality has a wind energy policy that was developed by council where it states that if any wind energy company complied with the town’s pre-set conditions, then they’d be fine with that.

Craig says the motion says to him there are two sets of standards that sends a confusing message to future business developers in any line of work.

Councillor Jacqueline Faubert says the opportunity to voice its displeasure against wind farms has come from Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne as she plans to re-visit turbine development.

However, Armow wind project manager Jody Law, who attended the council meeting says he was disappointed with the motion, saying council is passing motions that are inconsistent with the Memorandum of Understanding they have with the municipality.
