S.T.O.P.’s infrasound health concerns

January 15, 2013 | www.shorelinebeacon.com

What are citizens to do when their provincial government purposely hides harm to health as they promote an industrial technology before testing is done? Call them out, and that’s what Lisa Thompson did recently as Freedom of Information evidence of the government’s knowledge that wind turbines make people sick became public.

Naturally, we want to turn to our town council for help. This week, as reported in the Kincardine newspapers, those sickened by the wind turbines in the Enbridge project have done just that.

Twenty four families living in the Enbridge Wind Project between Port Elgin and Kincardine, their support group H.A.R.M. along with several supportive town councillors are asking Enbridge for relief from the debilitating effects of low frequency noise (LFN), the noise frequency so low you can’t hear it.

This LFN is well studied. The US army has studied it extensively for it’s effect on jet pilots and as a crowd control weapon. In short, it affects your inner ear resulting in dizziness, vertigo and head pain and makes your inner organs quiver.

Ontario promotes wind energy and does not require LFN to be regulated, thus allowing wind developers free reign to harm citizen’s health at will and be paid handsomely by those same tax payers.

S.T.O.P. has unsuccessfully asked for the CAW/CEP to not start it’s wind turbine as 117 families live as close or in some cases much closer to their turbine than the families in the Enbridge project. We have given them all the latest evidence LFN makes people sick. To date the CAW/CEP has refused to communicate with S.T.O.P., the residents advocacy group fighting this threat to citizen’s health.

In fact, we have copied Ken Lewenza of the CAW and David Coles of the CEP and Buzz Hargrove, the originator of this turbine project who recently said “ he’d do it all again” as well as the Public Relations managers for both unions on this Letter to the Editor.

Surely someone can explain why they refuse to communicate directly to citizens on our health concerns related to their for profit industrial electricity generating business in light of new harm to health evidence.

Environmental experts, working for several major wind developers, recently toured the CAW/ CEP turbine site and estimated 12 families would be impacted and suffer the same debilitating sickness of those suffering in the Enbridge project.

Low frequency noise was studied recently by an impartial panel of four noise experts at the request of the State of Wisconsin Public Service Commission besieged with residents health complaints. The study found ‘dangerous levels’ of noise from turbines and a State legislator called for an end to permitting of wind projects. We have provided the link to this article which is a breakthrough admission by the wind industry experts LFN does exist and can cause harm:

The CAW/CEP have chosen to be wind developers. They say they are about to start their turbine despite all the evidence, because the government who promotes the technology says its okay.

As a town are we prepared to declare 12 families collateral damage? If your family was one of the twelve what would you want your fellow citizens and your town council to do?

2013 will test the fabric of Saugeen Shores. We want to thank all those who have risen to this challenge.

Happy New Year,

Greg Schmalz
