Jones pleased the deadline is extended on wind turbine study

The Health Canada study of industrial wind turbines’ (IWT) deadline for comments has been extended until Sept. 7, and that is good news for Dufferin Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones.

Initially, there was only a 30-day comment period. But Health Canada has since indicated that the deadline has been extended to recognize the difficulty the summer holiday period may have posed for some Canadians to participate.

“I am pleased to see this extension, as some residents in Dufferin did express their concern to me that 30 days for the public to comment on Health Canada’s proposed research design and methodology was not long enough,” Jones said.

Jones recently wrote to Federal Minister of Health Leona Aglukkaq and urged her to include Dufferin County as part of the Health Study, considering the number of IWT projects that are operating throughout the county and the number of current projects that are proposed for the area.

“Dufferin County residents have first-hand knowledge about the impact of industrial wind turbines and would provide a well-informed perspective for the Health Canada study,” Jones added.

Details of the proposed study are on the Health Canada website.
