Rallying against turbines

by Mariane McLeod | www.bayshorebroadcasting.ca 24 July 2012

A group of people fighting plans for a wind turbine project is trying to gather a huge crowd for next week’s public meeting about the plans.

Clearview Wait is organizing a rally that will close part of County Road 91 on August 2nd, for a parade of tractors and farm equipment to the Stayner Community Centre.

WPD Canada has plans for an 8-turbine wind farm on property on both sides of County 91, near Fairgrounds Road.

Those opposed to the project say this is the last chance for people in the area to have a say in hopes of derailing the project.

Chuck Magwood has a farm near the proposed project.

He says there has only been the minimum of notice from WPD about the final meeting. He also says more changes to the Green Energy Act will further speed the process for similar projects.

Magwood says there is a lot of support for Clearview Wait, which he says has now spent 800-thousand dollars on the battle over the turbines.

Magwood adds while there are big donors, he also says hundreds of people in Clearview have donated to the cause.

The rally is planned for Clearview Nurseries, starting at 3 PM, and will proceed to the Stayner Community Centre.
