WELLINGTON-HALTON HILLS – In response to a new study announced by Health Canada, MPPs Ted Arnott and Randy Pettapiece are calling on the province to impose an immediate moratorium on new wind turbines.

In a news release from Arnott’s Tory office, the MPP said the low-frequency noise from the turbines may be causing people living nearby to be sick.

The Health Canada study is focused on the relationship between wind turbine noise and potential health effects for those living near wind developments. The study is being designed with support from external experts specializing in areas such as noise, health assessment, clinical medicine and epidemiology.

Tory energy critic Vic Fedeli is also calling for an end to further wind power development in Ontario.

Fedeli says the fact the federal government feels this study is necessary is reason enough to put a halt to any more wind turbines being built in the province.

The results of the study are expected to be released in 2014.
