Officials hear winds concerns in Listowel

Public concerns about a potential wind turbine development are being heard by North Perth municipal officials.

Several residents spoke in support of a proposed by-law to amend the applicable building permit fees at a recent public meeting, but also urged the municipality to do more. Staff initially recommended a flat rate in the range of $15,000 to $20,000 dollars per wind turbine but have been directed to investigate further as well as look at potential liability implications.

Councillor Warren Howard says it is a very complex issue which will require independent, costly advice so it needs to be recovered through the building permit process.
He adds even though the municipality’s power over wind turbine developments is currently limited, it is important do everything possible to protect North Perth citizens.

A 23 to 27 wind turbine development involving properties in the municipality and neighbouring Perth East is being proposed by Invenergy Canada.
