MPP ready for wind debate

by Rick Stow, www.bayshorebroadcasting.ca 5 March 2012

Huron Bruce Progressive Conservative MPP Lisa Thompson’s motion calling for a moratorium on wind projects will be debated in the Legislature on Thursday March 8th.

She tabled the motion calling for suspension of further development of wind projects in early December.

Thompson wants to see a third-party health and environmental study on the perceived ill-effects of turbines.

She says she continues to hear concerns from residents of Huron-Bruce and across the province about the impact turbines have on their health, environment and local economies.

Thompson says the Green Energy Act was poorly thought out and is an example of the Liberals ignoring issues that confront rural Ontario.

She agrees with Auditor-General Jim McCarter who says the McGuinty government’s approach to renewable energy is flawed and lacks proper oversight.

Thompson has spoken with several New Democrat MPP’s in the hope of gaining broader political support for her motion.

Thompson has also launched an on-line petition to bring attention to her position on wind power.
