Suzuki left out info on wind turbines

Re: ‘When it comes to health, wind power blows away alternative,’ July 8

After reading Mr. David Suzuki’s column on wind energy, I couldn’t help but think he seemed to leave out a few points.

While he mentioned China is building some wind turbines, he forgot to say how China is also building 300 coal plants and has no intentions of making better policies on pollution from manufacturing. He didn’t talk on the fact Denmark will no longer place turbines on land due to opposition.

Mr. Suzuki also didn’t mention wind turbines need coal or gas power plants as back up when the wind doesn’t blow. There fore do not save much in CO2 emissions if any.

He left out that the Ontario Liberals don’t even have a device to determine how loud a wind turbine is yet the government is allowing them to be built next to people’s homes as I write this. He left out over 130 people are suffering in Ontario and over 50 homes have been abandoned and we only have 800 out of 10,000 turbines up so far. Why didn’t he tell us the research Dr. King did was on “existing information” supplied by the wind industry and that independent research on health effects has not been done by any country in the world.

Now the wind industry wants turbines in sensitive natural areas where rare plants and wildlife will be threatened and organizations like the Sierra Club and now the Suzuki Foundation are making it easier for the Wind industry to put their turbines in these natural parks.

What makes enviro groups turn their backs on people and the environment? Is it the donations the Ontario Liberals are handing out to these groups through the Trillium Foundation? How about the wind industry, do they donate to enviro groups and if they do, how much?

One thing is for sure, the enviro groups better start to tell the whole story because when Ontario including the City of Kawartha Lakes end up with thousands of wind turbines across our communities damaging our health, property values, tourist industry, and our natural spaces. When hydro rates go through the roof and manufacturing high tails it out of Ontario leaving thousands unemployed, people will remember who tricked them into believing in wind power.
