Battle over turbines heats up

by Mariane McLeod, www.bayshorebroadcasting.ca 11 July 2011

Three councils in our area have now lined up behind the Collingwood airport in the battle over a wind farm proposed for Clearview township.

The Airport Board is bringing in a consultant to talk about the impact of the wind turbines on the runways at the airport, in advance of the public meeting on Wednesday by WPD Canada.

The group that has been fighting the plan for turbines in Clearview is vowing to have a huge contingent of protesters at the meeting, some travelling by tractor, others by hot air balloon.

Clearview, Collingwood and Wasaga Beach councils have each given their support to the airport’s claim that changes made to the plan for placement of turbines in the project at County 91 and Fairgrounds Road could have an impact on takeoffs and landings.

At least one turbines could be within two kilometres of the main runway, which could force the airport to change some of its procedures for takeoffs and landings.

A public meeting on the wind farm project is being held on Wednesday July 13th at the Stayner Community Centre.
