PROSPECT – Opponents of a West Hartford company’s proposal to build two wind turbines in Prospect are trying to derail the project by claiming the developer improperly received a $500,000 loan.

Save Prospect Corp., which has launched a vigorous campaign to defeat the wind farm, sent a letter to Attorney General George C. Jepsen on Thursday asking his office to investigate whether the developer, BNE Energy Inc., should lose its funding through the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.

The loss of funding could have implications for the company’s proposed Prospect wind farm, along with a similar proposal to build six 1.6-megawatt turbines on two sites in Colebrook. They would be the first commercial wind farms in the state.

The farms would each receive $500,000 loans from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.
