Wind turbines focus of Shelburne eco forum

The third installment of the Eco Forum, organized and hosted by Trinity United Church in Shelburne, aims to stir the debate about wind turbine projects.

Kicking off the event, which runs 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 22, is Rick Coates, who believes wind turbines are not a viable solution to our energy woes. He has 31 years experience working on Ontario’s power system.

Also set is speak is Bill French, a farmer who is part of the Melancthon Farm Owned Power project, who is looking to ensure his family farm is sustainable.

The next speaker will be David Colling, who is set to talk about what farmers should know before they sign a contract with a wind industry developer.

Carmen Krogh, a retired pharmacist from the Ottawa area, is the keynote speaker for the night. She’s a member of Society for Wind Vigilance, a group of health care and other professionals requesting the province conduct third party testing on the impact of turbines on human health.

The event is open to the general public, at no charge. Trinity United Church is located at 200 Owen Sound St. in Shelburne.
