Wind by law in the works

West Grey council is delaying a decision on whether or not to erect test towers for future wind development.

Mayor Kevin Eccles says staff needs to clean up a bylaw first before any approval can be given to put up temporary data collection on wind intensity and direction.

Eccles says they need to find out if the region is a good area for wind farms.

The wind developer is looking at a couple of test lots ..one on concession 2 in the former Bentinck Township and another on Concession 1 north of Durham Road.

Mayor Eccles doesn’t know how many wind turbines the developer is considering but those plans are still a long way off.

Some have said Grey County should come up with a comprehensive policy on wind energy development that would apply to all its municipalities.

While Eccles thinks they should make some comment …he’s still not sure yet whether the county should be the ‘official voice’ on this issue or not.

He expects the bylaw on test towers to come up again at their September 5th meeting.
