Wind turbine setback bylaw deferred again

Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Twp. Council chambers was divided by residents in support of or against wind turbines on Tuesday, Feb. 6, as council decided whether or not to pass its setback bylaw.

“This has been a long process,” said Huron County Planner Monica Walker-Bolton, describing the proposed setback bylaw which was first presented to council in September 2006. “These provisions walk the line of being too restrictive or not restrictive enough.”

Walker-Bolton said the bylaw would apply to EPCOR’s application but also other applications as well. She said the planning department looked at all lots in the township so that as many properties as possible could allow for wind turbines.
“Public input has been an important part of the process and we have tried to implement as much of that input as possible,” she said. She added that they have also received input from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Ministry of Environment and Highways Department.
