Wind project moving slowly

It’s going to be almost two years before the second phase of wind turbines near Shelburne are online.

CEO of Canadian Hydro John Keating says the project has been delayed in the permitry stage.

The second stage of the project has been undergoing environmental assessment, however the province has put that on hold pending a native land-claim outcome.

Keating would not comment on the native land claim.

The 45-turbine first-phase of the project was completed in March.

Keating says the turbines have been online ever since, and at times are actually producing more power than was forecast.

He says they hope to begin work on the 88 turbine in the Spring, and be online by June 30th 2008.

Combined, the two projects will produce just under 200 megawatts of power.
