NIMBY is an acronym for “not in my backyard”.
It is used negatively, to imply that someone is opposed to a development only because it would affect them and their neighborhood, and that they would otherwise not oppose it and might even support it, in other words, that they are acting selfishly with no regard to others (rather like a wind developer —Editor).
