Ministry backtracks on wind power project
The Ministry of Energy has stated that it will not guarantee the proposed Lake Turkana wind power project throwing the multi-billion power project off the balance. Energy Permanent Secretary Patrick Nyoike says guaranteeing the 75 billion shillings wind power plant will weigh down on Kenya’s debt position risking downgrading from rating agencies. Turkana wind power project hits turbulence
The country’s first major wind energy project has edged closer to tipping point after crucial talks that could see its birth veer into limbo. Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) cites trail of frustrations spinning around the multi-billion shilling project whose earlier kick-off timetable lapsed three months ago. Wind farm project could stall
Failure by the Government to guarantee that it will buy power generated from a wind farm being proposed for set up in Turkana, risks stalling what is being billed as the biggest wind power-producing project in Africa. World Bank agencies delay Lake Turkana wind project
On paper, Africa’s largest wind power project seems relatively straight forward – 365 wind power turbines to be erected over 24,000 acres in Turkana and a 400kilometre transmission line to ferry the generated power to connect to the national grid at Suswa.
