Planning decision on Vale of Glamorgan wind turbine project delayed until 2015

A decision on plans to build a wind turbine in the Vale of Glamorgan countryside has been delayed until next year.
The scheme by Buckinghamshire-based g2 Energy Renewable Developments involved erecting the turbine, which would have a maximum blade tip height of 77 metres, on land at The Grange in St Brides-super-Ely.
If allowed, the turbine would be on site for 25 years and generate sufficient power to supply 500 houses.
The application has split opinion in the area.
In its submission to the Vale of Glamorgan council’s planning committee, which will make the final decision on the proposal, Peterston-super-Ely community council said: “The council supports the use of renewable energy technologies. However, it cannot ignore the concerns of many of the residents of the neighbouring villages.
“There is great concern by some residents over the sheer size if the turbine and therefore the effect on the landscape which it is sure to dominate.”
Vale council planners have recommended approval of the scheme. But councillors deferred a decision so they could visit the site.
The visit will take place on January 15.
