Thousands gather in Dublin to protest against wind energy infrastructure
Thousands of people are gathering in central Dublin for a major rally against pylons and wind turbines. Organisers say over 200 community groups from across the Midlands and West are involved in today’s march from Parnell Square to the Dáil. They say Minister Pat Rabbitte’s announcement that plans for a wind export deal to the UK were being scrapped is a political ploy. A Donegal Cllr has claimed that UK windfarm developers targeting the county are laughing all the way to the bank. Planree Ltd have applied to An Board Pleanala to develop Irelands biggest onshore windfarm at Carrickduff Hill and Lismullyduff. The proposed windfarm could see up to 49 wind turbines built over 20 townlands from Barnesmore Gap right up to the Castlefin area. Wind turbine study finds possible correlation between noise and residents’ complaints, researcher says
A pilot study into wind farm noise and residents’ reactions to it has identified a special noise signature that could give new insights for medical research, the study’s lead author says. Wind energy study finds links to impacts reported by residents
A new study commissioned by renewable energy provider Pacific Hydro reveals a trend between wind farm infrasound and sensations reported by a sample of residents. The company arranged an industry-first report taking into how people’s senses are affected by its wind farm located in south west Victoria. Does living near a wind farm pose a health hazard?
In 2011, a Senate inquiry called for urgent research into the possible effects of wind farms on human health after hearing from Australians who claimed their health was destroyed from living in close proximity to wind turbines. Similar claims have been made in other countries, including Canada and Australia’s National Health and Medical Research Council has been conducting what it calls an independent systematic review.
